TCH Plymouth Upgrade: A New Gym, Better Facilities, and Fresh Holds
After successful launches in Southampton and Bristol earlier this year, The Climbing Hangar is turning its attention back to the existing community. Our Plymouth site, a mainstay for the local climbing community, is now undergoing the first phase of a broader improvement project aimed at elevating the experience for every visitor and offering more than just climbing.
What's New?
A New Gym, Built from Unused Space
What was once the Little Hangar, an underused corner of the building, has been repurposed into a dedicated gym area. Open to the public as of 15 September 2025, the space now hosts a range of strength and conditioning equipment designed to complement climbing-specific training. More kit is on the way, but it’s already a meaningful step towards a more complete fitness offering for TCH members.
Fresh Holds, Fresh Challenges
As part of its ongoing commitment to quality route-setting, TCH continues to introduce new climbing holds to our range. It’s more than just cosmetic, it’s a way to keep climbs evolving and keep climbers engaged. Whether you're looking to project something new or simply switch up your routine, now’s a good time to check back in.
Upgraded Toilets and Changing Rooms
In response to long-standing feedback about the changing facilities, TCH Plymouth began a full refurbishment on 22 September. The work, expected to last five weeks, includes:
Higher quality finishes throughout
Improved air circulation
Refitted toilet cubicles and sinks
New cubby storage
Temporary changing areas will be in place during construction but visitors are encouraged to arrive ready to climb, where possible.. The accessible (DDA) toilet remains in operation, and temporary facilities will also be available for use outside the main building.
A Low-Barrier Approach to High-Quality Climbing
While the works may cause some short-term disruption, they’re part of a longer-term vision: to ensure that every TCH centre delivers a welcoming, high-quality experience without gatekeeping or gimmicks.
Because this is indoor climbing for every body, from first-timers to life-longers.
