Nestled on the outskirts of Widnes, Pex Hill Quarry is a sandstone haven that’s etched itself into the hearts of North West climbers. This disused quarry is a bouldering paradise known for its crimpy holds, bullet-pocked Pisa Wall, and routes that demand strong fingers and precise footwork. From the classic Hart’s Arete to the notorious Web, Pex Hill offers over 160 climbs, ranging from V0 to V7 and trad routes up to E7 6b, making it a training ground for legends like Phil Davidson and a magnet for local climbers seeking real rock over plastic.

But this iconic crag, part of the Mersey Forest, needs our love to stay pristine. That’s why The Climbing Hangar, in partnership with Friends of Pex Hill, is stoked to announce the Pex Hill Crag Clean Up on Saturday, 21 June 2025. Join us for a free community event to tidy up this beloved spot, ensuring it remains a vibrant hub for climbers, families, and nature lovers who flock here for the views of the Mersey Estuary and North Wales mountains.

We’ll be picking up rubbish, clearing debris, and giving the quarry a spruce-up to preserve its natural beauty and climbing quality. This is a not-for-profit event all about community and care for our outdoor spaces. After the clean-up, stick around for some bouldering with the Hangar crew—bring your crash pads and tackle those micro-routes or low-level traverses that make Pex Hill so special.
